Seven women and three children were found buried in the ex-cop’s property after he was arrested in two more murders.
The buried bodies of seven women and three children were discovered on the property of a former El Salvador police officer.
Hugo Osorio Chavez Osorio, 51, is being investigated on suspicion of sex crimes and 13 murders, according to the country’s attorney general’s office.
He was originally arrested Saturday for the murder of a woman and her adult daughter, which he testified, according to The Associated Press.
The arrest came after neighbors in the western town of Chalchuapa called police and reported hearing a woman crying for help.
Officers found the bodies of a 57-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter at home in a pool of blood with signs of sexual abuse.
Investigations led to excavations in various areas of the property. Among the bodies found were a 7-year-old girl and two boys aged 2 and 9.
Police did not detail why the number of murders being investigated was 13.
Some of the people killed were murdered about two years ago, according to the lawyer’s office on Twitter.
Seven more possible burials on the property are still under investigation. At least 25 people are considered missing in the area.
Chavez Osorio was fired from his job as a police officer in 2005 for aggressive behavior and spending five years in prison, according to investigators.
Based on the case information, prosecutors issued warrants of arrest for nine more suspects who may have served as accomplices in 13 murders, including the murder of eight women.
