Over the next twelve months, Jaguar I-Pace EVs equipped with Google’s Street View mapping technology driving around Dublin. And they don’t just collect Street View imagery – they also monitor the air quality in the town. Google partnered with Jaguar Land Rover for the project, making the I-Pace the first electric Street View car. In addition to mounting Street View cameras on the roofs of vehicles, however, Jaguar’s engineers also equipped them with air quality measurement sensors, so they can pull double duty as did the cars in London Street View. back in 2018.
The mobile air sensors made by Aclima will allow me to measure nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and carbon dioxide (CO2), as well as fine particles (PM2.5) in the air at the base of the street. They hope to provide Google’s science research partners with the data they need to create street -level air pollution maps.
Google has partnered with Dublin City Council for a project called “Air View Dublin.” It’s part of the tech giant’s effort to map hyperlocal air quality data under the Environmental Insights Explorer program, which will provide local governments with the information they need to address climate and pollution issues in their neighborhoods. city.
Paddy Flynn, VP of Geo Operations at Google, says:
“Air quality is a serious concern, especially in municipalities, but there is a gap in the localized data and insights available to both decision-makers and citizens. in this project, we are using technology to get this vital data accessible so that with Dublin City Council, we can run the design of the solution. “
This isn’t the first time an Alphabet company has used I-Pace EV for a project. Waymo also added I-Pace EVs to the host of its own administrators a few years ago and now cars are being used to test their own driving technology.
